Do I have to be Catholic?
No. We welcome applicants from all faiths and no faiths who wish to continue their education in a Christian environment.
How do you select your students?
The Governors are committed to maintaining the College’s open access admissions policy and applications will be considered in the following order of priority:
Catholic applicants from the College’s Catholic partner schools and Children in public care (looked after children) or previously looked after.
Our partner schools are:
- Harrytown Catholic High School
- St. Anne’s Roman Catholic High School
- St. James’ Catholic High School
- St. Thomas More Catholic School, Buxton
Priority will be given to Looked after Children in the care of a Local Authority or children that were looked after by the Local Authority and immediately after that became subject to an adoption, child arrangements or special guardianship order.
Catholic applicants from other schools
Non-Catholic applicants from Catholic schools
Brothers and sisters of present students, or former students who have completed a study programme with us within the past 6 years, and children of current staff and governors of the college. The relationship of step brother/sister is not an automatic qualification for category 1D and such applications will be considered on an individual basis.
I’m Catholic, do I have to produce proof?
Catholic applicants who do not attend a Catholic Secondary School may be asked to produce proof of baptism.
What do I include in my application?
You need to answer all questions fully and include as much detail as possible. Applicants are strongly encouraged to disclose any disability, learning or health need. Any such disclosure will be treated in strict confidence.
The application form is used as part of the selection process for interview and offer of a place at the College. Since it is not possible to offer every student a place at Aquinas College, the quality of the application is important and all deadlines must be met.
I’ve missed the application deadline can I still apply?
Applications in all categories submitted after our deadline will be put onto a reserve list with no guarantee of further consideration.
When will I know if I have a place?
Category 1: All Category 1 applicants who have submitted their application by our deadline will have a Course Consultation interview and offers will be confirmed by the 18 December 2020.
Category 2: All Category 2 applications submitted by our deadline will be given consideration. All category 2 applicants will be notified by the 18 December 2020 whether or not they have been selected for interview. Interviews will take place in January and offers will be confirmed by February half term 2021.
If I have an interview can parents/carers attend with me?
Parents/carers are welcome to accompany you to an interview but they do not go into the interview with you. Should they have concerns or wish to ask questions, they will be able to do so.
